To Write Love On Her Arms (TWLOHA) is an organization that brings awareness to depression and suicide. I have a particularly fond place in my heart for this ministry, because this is what I hope for my ministry to become. I want to be someone who is not afraid to share my story- my path, my mistakes- in order to give someone else hope. TWLOHA is a resource that offers people the chance to wear their support for a loved one, someone they know, or even themselves who have or are struggling with depression. This year they are doing something neat that I want to participate in- that I want YOU to participate in; it’s called Run For It. It is a virtual 5k, meaning you run right where you are, on April 16th, in your community. The goal is to get people around the nation to buy the Run for It Tshirt and number plate so that 1) your money goes to TWLOHA to support depression awareness and 2) so that people see you and when they ask what you’re doing, you tell them.
On April 16th I am going to put on my TWLOHA Run For It Shirt and number sticker and run (or more probably ride my bike) 3.5 miles to show my support for all those like me who have, or still are, suffering from depression, anxiety or suicidal thoughts. Do you have someone in your life you want to run for? Do you want to run for you? Maybe if it is you who is suffering, you don’t have the strength to run. I remember those days. Maybe it is all you can do to leave the bed. I would encourage you so hard to put this shirt on, ask a close friend or family member to do the same, and walk in defiance of your struggles. You may be in a rut, but you don’t have to stay there!
Much easier said than done, I know that very well. But I also know you can do it. Because I did. Maybe you are someone who has a family member or friend who suffers from depression. Maybe you don’t understand it, all that they’re going through. I strongly encourage you to put on that shirt and run. Then talk to that person and tell them you are there for them. Ask about their struggles and just listen. Maybe you are someone who has had someone close to them take their life because of depression. Run for them, to show the world your love for that person and the hope there is for others who feel the same. The main goal is to just say, I am a person, I care about those who suffer, ask me why I run.
If you are interested in joining me, please go HERE and register for the 5k. After you register you are given a support page in which you can raise money for depression/suicide awareness, and get others to run with you. And if you have any questions, please feel free to email me firstname.lastname@example.org. I would be happy to tell you more about my story, and I want to hear yours. So go ahead, Run For It. Run for Hope.
